O2 Tours & dive
Wakatobi-Alor—Komodo 10D/9N
Day 1: Kendari – Wakatobi
O2 staff will meet you upon your arrival at Kendari Airport. After a short trip we will board the O2, home for the next 10 days. Once the documents are ready, the yacht sets sail offshore to Wakatobi National Park. One check dive might be scheduled depending on time. (maybe night dive)
Day 2-3: Wakatobi National Park
At 4am we will drop the anchor at Kapota near the main island of Wakatobi, enjoy the dolphins leaping out of the water in the bright rising sun. In the next two days we will spend 6 dives covering the most splendid dive sites in Wakatobi. In general, because there are few tourists and divers, diving here is a very leisurely vacation style. Many times, there is only one diving boat in an area, and “diver storms” will not be seen here. On the third night we will sail overnight to Alor.
Dive sites: Mari Mabuk, dan Roma, Shark Point, Wandoka Pinnacle, Seafan 38, Credit-Seto Ariyadi
Day 4: Alor Beang abang & Pura
After a long journey of 17 hours, we finally arrived at Alor at noon. Have one dive at Kal’s Dream and then pick another site between Sharks Galore and Clown Valley, both located on the east side of Pura Island. Divers usually choose Sharks Galore on the north side as entrance, where blacktip and grey reef sharks are common.
Day 5: Pura & Panter
We spend the day visiting the Mandarin House and Boardroom on the north side of Pura Island. Healthy coral slope is an ideal home for mandarin fish, dancing off the reef in the daytime while breeding at dawn. In the 50-meter-high underwater cliff at Boardroom, east of the Mandarin House, where crystal fish, jackfish and snapper hide out. In the afternoon, arrive at Twilight Zone outside Biangabang village beach, where the water temperature may be quite low. Divers swimming south in the direction of the lava flow can reach a depth of 40 meters, while more marine life live in the shallower areas.
Day 6: Adonara Serbete & Maumere Serbete
We will cruise along the southern coast to enjoy the underwater reef gardens, countless pelagic fish, and mola mola. In Maumere Bay there are several world class muck diving sites full of amazing critters, frogfish, mimic octopus and special nudibranchs can be found. There are at least 1,200 species of fish, including those recently discovered. With a bit of luck, we will encounter dolphins, whales and whale sharks. Dolphins and Pilot Whales are common here.
Day 7: Komodo Sebolan & Tatawa Besar
We start our dives in Tatawa Besar and Tataw Kecil after breakfast. Currents in this area can be quite strong and complicated, so the entrance will be determined by direction of the current. This would be a thrilling drift dive, the current is a little bit strong while it is barely able to fight by your kick. The fish life here is abundant and big mantas and bamboo sharks will occasionally hover around. Sea turtles are routine here. Photographers will be cheerful with any luck. Besides, black flag sharks, giant trevally, great blacktail barracuda will show up for you.
The south of Tatawa Besar is called Tatawa Kecil. We enter the shallow water on the west coast, explore the vibrant coral gardens, scorpions everywhere, groupers hiding under the rocks or in caves, large groups of Humpback snapper, green puffer fish, and some orange-spotted trevally.
Day 8: Gill Laut & Gill Darat
We will arrive in the bay area in the early morning and spend all 4 of the dives on those excellent dive sites. Both Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, two submerged pinnacles home to an abundance of marine life, are world class dive sites with an incredible underwater activity. Strong and unpredictable currents, the feature of North Komodo, find its greatest expression there. Sometimes washing machine current and down current are encountered. The sites, with good visibility and the rock structure full of soft corals, are perfect for observing those big creatures of the boundless blue sea, such as sharks, sea turtles, eagle rays, a large group of sardines at dusk, and even dolphins if lucky enough. During the ascent, schools of barracuda, trevally, mackerel and batfish might pass us by.
Then we will head to GPS Point, where sharks, canine tuna and barracuda storms are regarded as treasures. Some lucky guy used to encounter a record seven different species of sharks in one dive. Every September, it is more likely to encounter groups of hammerhead sharks. There is still a strong current area, and some experience of diving in current is required.
Next we will visit the legendary dive site Shot Gun which is famous for its rip roaring drift dive. We can take a leisurely view of coral cliffs, sandy macros creatures, reef sharks cruising in the canyon, Jack fish feeding against current, and then enjoy the thrill of strong current pushing forward.
Dive sites: GPS Point,Crystal Bomie、Shot Gun
Day 9: Tora Longkoy – Padar – Lohoksera
Arrival at Tora Longkoy Bay along the south coast of Komodo where the most well-known dive site ’Manta Alley’ is located. It is in fact a manta cleaning station. Because of facing the vast Indian Sea, it provides a wonderful wide-angle shooting opportunity for photographers. The three rocks at the dive site are covered with colorful soft and hard corals, sharks and many other large fishes can be seen here, as well as various marine life such as jack fish, tuna, napoleon, barracuda etc.
Next, we will visit Padar island, famous for its “Pillar Rock ” dive site. When you see a small pinnacle rock, that is it. We enter the water at the southern end of the island. There is a cave at about 40 meter with visibility of 10-12 meters. Night dive will be spent on Lohoksera.
Day 10: Pink Beach & Komodo National Park – Labuan bajo
Arrival in Komodo Island in the morning, and spend 2 dives just off the famous Pink Beach. After lunch, we go ashore for a ranger guided hike into the interior of Komodo Island (about 4-5 kilometers round-trip), to look for Komodo dragons. After this unforgettable meeting, we will anchor up and head to Labuan Bajo to end our journey.
Information compiled here is based on past trips we have conducted. Weather and sea conditions in the area can be unpredictable, and O2 retains the right to alter an itinerary from advice of the ship’s captain, cruise director, or owner for the safety of the vessel, its passenger and crew.
